Temporary Residence
Temporary residence is a status that allows you to stay in Canada for a determined period of time with validity dates to respect. Temporary residence can easily lead to permanent residence if you know how to go about it and if you are well advised!
This status may be renewed several times, the number of which depends on the category in which the residence permit was issued and the circumstances of the renewal application.
													FOREIGN WORKERS
This category is almost infinite possibilities! There are work permits for all kinds of situations!
The basic rule is that it is mandatory to justify the granting of a work permit to a foreign national by filing an application for a Labor Market Impact Study (LMIA) with Service Canada. As such, the Canadian employer is asked to demonstrate that recruitment efforts in the Canadian labor market have not been successful and that it is not reasonably possible for him to fill the short-term position with a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen.
However, there are many exceptions to this rule, such as the International Mobility Program which includes, among others, professionals, entrepreneurs and executives who can avail themselves of international agreements on professional exchange. The best known are NAFTA, GATS, CETA (Canada-European Union). In addition, several countries have signed agreements under the International Experience Canada program that allows international youth to come to work in Canada to gain valuable experience. Three sub-categories have been identified: work-holiday permits, young professional licenses and the international coop internship.
For its part, Immigration Québec issues a list of occupations for which a labor shortage has been noted in the Québec labor market. This list is updated on an annual basis and is used to justify a simplified treatment by Service Canada of proposed TIMS requests. It is therefore not necessary for the employer to demonstrate its recruitment efforts when it comes to hiring a foreign worker in one of the following professions:

Similarly, Immigration Canada has also created a global skills strategy to help Canada’s fast-growing, innovative companies that need to quickly fill positions requiring unique and specialized skills to continue to grow. This strategy focuses on streamlining the process of processing demand and reducing processing times in as little as 2 weeks!
In addition, Immigration Canada has targeted highly specialized positions in information and communications technology occupations listed below:
STUDENTS
The Canadian Study Permit is very popular among young people who want to acquire a world-renowned education. These permits are unfortunately only issued to students from wealthy families who use their large financial means to pay tuition fees not subsidized by the Canadian state.
It is important to have a good knowledge of the language of instruction before coming to study in Canada or to indicate in your study plan language courses prior to the desired course of study.
This type of permit may be renewed or amended if the student’s course is not completed within the expected period of graduation or if he wants to change his or her program of studies or continue his studies to a higher level.

													VISITORS
Visitor permits are issued to nationals of countries that are not eligible for the electronic travel authorization, known as the ETA. The latter concept was introduced in March 2016 and applies to foreigners who originate in a country exempt from the visa requirement for entry into Canada and who travel to Canada by air. It is a document electronically linked to a traveler’s passport and valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you must also get a new ETA.
For other nationals, the visitor’s permit may be issued for single entry or for multiple entries and may be of a commercial nature only. Generally, if a border services officer does not see any obstacles when you enter Canada, the authorized stay is automatically 6 months.
A visitor record may be issued for a longer period and responds to an application for renewal of visitor status or a request made abroad for the purpose of accompanying a holder of a study permit or work permit while a parental or conjugal relationship exists between the two people.
In addition, Immigration Canada has introduced visitor visas to the parents and grandparents of Canadian residents and citizens who have been called Super Visas in that they are valid for 10 years and that they allow to stay in Canada without leaving the country for a maximum of 2 consecutive years. This is very beneficial when we want a parent to be able to help us in our daily life at the right time or simply when we want to take care of them for a while.
